Ocean Waves is a high school love story set in Kochi, Japan. Morisaki Taku and Matsuno Yutaka are best friends when a girl from Tokyo named Muto Rikako transfers to their school. Excluding herself from group activities, she's eventually labeled a snob. Matsuno has a crush on Rikako, so it's no surprise that he gets a little jealous when Morisaki and Rikako start spending more time together. The rumors around school get worse, but Morisaki still insists there is nothing between him and Rikako. (Source: ANN)

A complicated love story with one of the most pointless and selfish women in all of anime history.

Definitely an underappreciated Ghibli film and I can see why, the story is a bit slow but I enjoyed it just for the beautiful Japan setting.

It’s complicated, much like the subject it’s trying to convey.

This simple drama is as far removed from the grandness typically associated with Ghibli as you can get, but it’s done no less masterfully.

Oof. Ultimately, a little melodramatic but an interesting Ghibli experiment nonetheless.

Ocean Wave’s is a film that is slow, taking it’s time to discuss and go over an idea at a pace that many might not be comfortable with.

Love the tone and direction, but the writing is low key soap operaish (despite its jabs at that genre). I didn’t buy the couple’s romance.
